students find it quite easy to locate off-campus

The City Colleges of Chicago offers its students
a vast selection of academic tracts to follow
with flexible class schedules. CCC boasts
enrollment of approximately 34,000 students,
and 7 campuses across the culturally rich city
of Chicago.
While the number of international
students is relatively small, the numbers are
continuously growing and we offer our international
students over 200 different programs of
study. Students can prepare for transfer to a
four-year university by earning an associate
degree, or improve their English skills through
our English as a Second Language program.
In
addition to traditional academics, CCC provides
technical and vocational training courses
(including the renowned French Pastry School)
and pre-professional instruction through seven
diversified Colleges, three satellite learning
centers, and two technical institutes.

Our seven campuses and related learning facilities
are all conveniently located within easy
access to public transportation. Our central
facilities are situated within walking distance to
beautiful Lake Michigan, parks, museums,
theaters and surrounding activities offered by
the City of Chicago.

Being a large organization within a major metropolitan
city, our student body is culturally
diverse. With enrollment from almost 50
countries, students are likely to meet others
from their home countries. International students
are given platforms to interact with their
American peers through various on and offcampus
activities and cultural programs.
Students are encouraged to participate in student
government, and can choose to participate in as
many as 30 clubs sponsored by each campus.
Personal academic advising is offered to students,
tutoring, computer labs, and campus
libraries with access to all public libraries in
the City of Chicago.
Select campuses also offer
swimming pool, gymnasium, dance studio,
weight training center, and a 430-seat
Performing Arts Center.

This fall I have volunteered to assist with the
school’s Open House. I am looking forward to
sharing my experience at the school with other
people who are interested in attending the
school. I wanted to be involved to share my
experience with others, to tell them how I am
enjoying my experience. I feel I will benefit from
my involvement with the school by meeting new
people and being able to learn from others who
can share their knowledge with me.
One of my favorite off-campus activities is
shopping and sightseeing around Chicago.
This is one of the greatest cities to spend time
in. After graduation I plan to return home to
Mexico and work in a hotel while I make
plans to open my own bakery next year with
my mother.
My name is Angela Garza Lobo. I am 22 years
old, majoring in French pastry and baking. I am
from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, in Mexico. When I
graduate in December 2005, I will have earned
the L’Art de la Patisserie certificate from The
French Pastry School. I chose to come to the
City Colleges of Chicago to study after one of
my instructors in Mexico, who was familiar with
The French Pastry School, noticed my
passion for pastry and recommended that I
pursue school in the United States.
I did not have the opportunity to visit The
French Pastry School before the first day of
class, but I was so happy when I arrived. The
kitchen has the best equipment one can use.
There are plenty of supplies for everyone. The
chef instructors and staff are friendly, informative,
and helpful. I have met many friendly
students and my class has made me feel very
comfortable being in the United States. The
whole classroom environment is great.
There are no culinary schools in Mexico that
can compare to The French Pastry School’s
curriculum. The caliber of the chef instructors
cannot be duplicated. My school’s program
is very hands-on. I am in the kitchen six hours
a day, five days a week for 24 weeks. I have
the opportunity to use the freshest and best
ingredients available. I have used the best
equipment available and I have access to many
different supplies.
The faculty at the French Pastry School, especially,
Chef Jacquy, Chef Sebastien, and Chef
John, are all very friendly and approachable.
They are all knowledgeable instructors and
it has been easy to learn from them. The
classroom atmosphere is wonderful. The oneon-
one attention is great. The chefs spend time
